MNRE announces Basic Custom Duty on import of solar photovoltaic cells and modules

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on February 12, 2020, has informed that the tariff rate for Solar Cells, not assembled and Solar Cells assembled in modules or made up into panels is 20%, whereas the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) shall remain ‘Nil’. The Ministry of Finance vide Union Budget for Financial Year 2020-2021 has already mentioned that:

“Create tariff items 8541 40 11 for ‘Solar Cells, not assembled’ and tariff item 8541 40 12 for ‘Solar Cells assembled in modules or made up into panels’. The tariff rate for these items is 20%. However, these items will continue at 'Nil' BCD.”

For smooth implementation, it has further informed that the Basic Customs Duty on the above- mentioned items shall remain ‘Nil’.
